Us 70 years ago...

Hello girls!

I just had to share this story with you...

Tonight my mom and I went down to my neighbor Sandy's house because she was helping us with a project. She and her husband have her mother living with them in a little wing off of their house. Sandy was showing us around her house because I had never been and said, "Oh Amy you have to come see something at my mother, Annie's, house." We walk over and meet her mother and her mother's sister who were the most adorable 90+ year old women and who were also Ohio State grads! Annie gives me a big hug just because I went to Ohio State and shows me two black and white framed photos on the wall. One is of the very first Script Ohio in 1936 that her own father had actually taken himself! How cool is that?! Then she shows me the rest of her Ohio State memorabilia and talks about how she worked at Long's bookstore on 15th and High for 15 cents an hour! I almost didn't want to tell her that Long's is no longer. She and her sister also lived about a block away from us on 14th between Summit and 4th!! I couldn't believe it. Then they tell me they had to move closer to the train tracks because they couldn't afford the other place any more... My favorite part is that I was telling her how I had graduated and have been having trouble finding a job and her reply is (with absolutely no sarcasm), "Well when I graduated we were having a bit of a recession and I had a devil of a time finding a job! I had to babysit for a year until I found something". It dawns on me that the "bit of a recession" she was talking about was the Great Depression! How hilarious. She totally has a better excuse.

Anyway, the two of them were talking about how much fun they had there and how they got into a bit of trouble but had the time of their lives. It made me miss you all and Ohio State, so I just had to share.

Hope all is well. I'm so excited to see you guys! Lots of love to you all.

quick update from me too!

Hey girls!

I had a crazy week this week so I just wanted to give you all an update, too! First of all, Maria- congratulations on the new job and new apartment and I'm so excited to see you in June!! It's been WAY too long!

I am still planning on coming for MJ's graduation, but here's the new update...

I got an internship for the summer! While not a job (it ends the beginning of August), it will be great experience, it is paid at least some (wahoo!) and hopefully fun, too! I'm really excited to be working. I interviewed with them for the 2nd time on Tuesday. He called me on Wednesday to offer me the position and I start on Friday! It's with a non-profit called Kicks For Kids and it's really small. There is an executive director, associate director and me. It's the foundation of a former Cincinnati Bengal kicker and we "level the playing field" for children in need. We have a 5k fundraiser over Memorial Day weekend, a Celebrity Golf tournament in June and they put on programs for the kids for the rest of the year. I will be supporting the other 2 employees in all that they do and "wearing a lot of different hats" as they say, which will help me learn more about this business.

The only bad this is I will be working everyday so I wont be able to come up to Columbus until Friday night or Saturday and I'll have to leave Sunday. I really wish I could be there longer but I only have these 3 months to make an impression so I wont to work my butt off and not take off any days. I plan to still be there but just not as long. Sorry, girls!

A couple more updates...

Jennifer Hagel from the Michael J Fox Foundation (the one who came to Pancakes) was in Ohio and came down to Ryland for dinner with us on Tuesday! It was really great to see her. I've kept in touch with her a little and she's actually a reference for me on my resume but it was really nice to see her and hear about the foundation.

John is coming home in the middle of July. I wanted him to be here for the 4th but it's their busiest weekend of the year so it wasn't going to happen. I'll have to work while he's here but it will actually be a nice flip since he is always working while I'm visiting him! I was there for his birthday in April so it will be 3 months until I see him in July, which is a huge bummer. Although, hopefully I'll be able to go out in August after my internship ends and then he'll be back in October for Lauren's wedding!

I hope everyone is doing well. I'm always thinking about you guys. I am so excited to see you all in June! Miss you!

Amy

quick update

I miss everyone sooo much. I have been stalking you all on facebook, so I hope that is okay with you.

Just wanted to give everyone some updates...
First, and most importantly, I got the days off for MJs graduation!!! I think I took Thursday-Monday off. I cannot tell you how pumped I am for this. I am getting super home sick for all of you and may never let go of you when we have our reunion. And it's been so hard to get time off at work so it's just a double whammy of happiness.

I feel like I have had a lot of stuff happening in the last couple of months but I have some time and I wanted to tell you guys about them... Kev and I moved into a new apartment in Albany. It's like a mile from the old place but it's soo much bigger and a two bedroom. The new address is 385 Morris St Apt 21 Albany, NY 12208. LC got a chance to see it when she was visiting and I would love to say that we're more moved in since she was here, but unfortunately we're not.

Kev and I also just bought a car!! I am so happy we finally got rid of Kev's green jeep. We bought a Honda Element (the one that looks like a toaster) and it makes me want to camp or atl east tailgate. The whole thing turns into a bed and it's like my jeep in the sense that the seats are water proof and the floors are all rubber. We thought it'd be a good car for babies. :o)

And I got a promotion at work. I've been promoted to the House Manager of my cottage. It's actually the same job I had before but now I can just get yelled at more.

Anyway, I miss you all, sorry if this is incoherent I am just a little tired.

I finally got a "Big Girl Job" : )

Hi all!

No more chicken wings, biker dudes, or late nights/weekends for me!!! As of Monday, I am a Staffing Manager at CHS! I guess the wait finally paid off. The position is such a great starting point for me and will allow me to get some experience in the world of human resources. I will be reponsible for interviewing all of our employees and setting up them with our clients. I found out yesterday that my clients will include Heinz Field, PNC Park, and the Peterson event center. This just shows that patience (actually laziness, but I'll call it patience) is a virtue. Things work out in the end.

I am so excited to see everyone for MJ's graduation. It is definitely time for an 1806 reunion!

Love you all!

Erin

Quick Hello!

Hey girlies -

Just wanted to say hi. I was reminiscing tonight with my friend Ali about the days of 1806. Miss you all. Hope you're all doing well. Looking forward to having everyone together in June for MJ's graduation. Mark your calendars if you haven't already!

Hugs and Kisses.

it was great to hear from everyone!

Hey guys!
It was so great to hear everyone's voice this weekend. I hope you all had a great time in Columbus!!
I've thoroughly enjoyed reading everyone's posts. Amy the pictures are absolutely beautiful, I hope you had a great time in San Fran, all your trips always look like they are so fun! MJ I think Memphis would be so much fun... and adventure definitely suits you, I am very excited for you!
Currently Kev and I are in the middle of a move. It's to a much bigger place, right down the road. Kev and I just needed some more room, and this place was just too good of a deal to pass up. So now we do have an extra bedroom just in case someone is passing by. But moving is beyond frustrating, and I am not the partner for this kind of thing.
Work still continues to occupy all of my time and energy. The kids have taken to calling me Mom, which is continually hilarious to me because I am only 4 years older than some of them. I am enjoying work, but look forward to a time when this job will be a mere memory. We are being closely monitored by the accrediting bodies because they are seriously questioning the legitimacy of some of the work being done at Vanderheyden. My bosses sincerely thought we were going to be shut down last week. I was half excited for the change, half unnerved by the reality that I could be getting laid off. But all worked out and I am still a slave to the emotionally disturbed youth of the state of New York.
Little Paloma is doing well. Kev took some heat from family for getting a chihuahua initially, but everyone likes her now. She, of course, loves Kev the most. I mean, I knew it would happen, but I was hoping I could catch a break. The man's just too likable.
I will definitely be out in Columbus for graduation... Kev's family is going to be vacationing in South Carolina the week after, but like I told everyone we are mandated to stay at work for that particular week. I figure Columbus in June is the perfect spot for our alternative vacation.

Love you all!

At last... At last... Spring is about here!

Apparently I have been slacking on reading the blog (and in keeping in touch!), because I just read from MR's post on and learned A LOT!

Amy, I am so glad that you found those 3 volunteer jobs. I think it is perfect that you found one involving clothes, because you finally have a place that will accept your nice stuff (since Plato's closet was lame).
Back to business... I will let you know if Eric's family has an extra Bengals/Reds tickets, because normally their extras just go to waste.

As for the "1806 big girl" job issue. I know that since you guys have graduated from college, you want to have big girl jobs. And I know you might find me foolish for saying this. But honestly, maybe it's nice to not have that right now... It can push you closer to grad school which can open up more opportunities, give you time (which you might not have had) to help the community, and give you time to enjoy life before you have to buckle down. Basically, I just want to make sure that as a house, we are stepping back and taking the time to enjoy life, as transient as it might be.

LP I absolutely loved the statement in your blog about how I am graduating in June. I felt like you were bragging about you kid or something. I look up to you guys so much and for some reason that sentence made me feel really loved. thank you.

I'm sure you guys have been sitting on the edge of your seats wondering when I am going to finally expose the gushy details of my life. ; ) Well here goes... As many of you know, I moved in with Eric in Jan. and am subleasing my apartment. Eric got accepted into UMemphis and UT's PhD psychology program. After much consideration, he has decided to go to Memphis, so that will be our new home come late August. I am so so so excited for warmER weather all year round, and I think it will be a fun environment for us. The only bummer in the plan is that it is 7.5 hours from Cincinnati. I am confident that we will be making many trips back though. I believe we will be living there for about 5 years. I am currently working on getting my Tennessee licensure for nursing, and I am applying to Vanderbilt's Pediatric Nurse Practitioner program for this fall! I can live in Memphis and have a preceptor in Memphis and just take classes online. Dream come true! I would get my degree in a year, which means I would NEVER have to work in a hospital again! Instead, I can practice in a pediatrician's office!! Another dream come true! I am not sure that I will be accepted for this Fall though, because I am having to piece together my application last minute (by MArch 31st!) and I just visited with them March 5th. I am taking the GRE on March 31st--Erin I would appreciate any last minute advice haha!

And don't worry, if for some reason things fall through with Eric, I could still be in Vandy's program from Cincinnati.

Sorry if the above information seems like it was flung at you... I just feel so excited. And, unfortunately, I have like 7 essays to tend to to complete my application. BTW, Maria, thank you so much for the Origin's lotion and shower gel you got me last year. I am so in love with scent.

I hope you guys all enjoy the start of Spring, and I can't wait to see many of next weekend! Perhaps this will be the "BEST BIRTHDAY EVER PART 2!" haha just kidding... I am still trying to think of a fun, mature night on the town!

Oh, and please try to come back for my senior crawl!!!! LOVE YOU GUYS!

MJ
